This 10 week, 400 hour program teaches students how to safely operate large construction equipment such as backhoes, hydraulic excavators, rubber tire loaders/dozers, vibrating rollers, and more. In addition to operating equipment, students will learn to do site surveying, laser leveling, building layouts, footers, trenching, piping, reading prints, and more.
SAFETY ~ 60hr
Knowledge of your own personal limitations; inspection of job site; utilization of personal protective equipment; awareness into handling toxic material through MSDS; trenching and cave in awareness; utilizing proper hand signals; familiarization of OSHA laws, regulations, and certification; fall protection.
FIELD ENGINEERING ~ 40hr
Utilizing practical math skills to incorporate building and project layouts; computing elevations; plan reading; understanding grades and elevations; utilizing scales, rules, and theories during field engineering.
SURVEYING TECHNIQUES ~ 40hr
Instructions and proper handling of precision equipment and their components.
SUITABILITY & APPLICATION OF HEAVY EQUIPMENT ~ 40hr
Operating techniques within specific job requirements; utilizing the proper equipment for the task at hand; knowing equipment limitations; understanding safe operation of equipment.
EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES ~ 20hr
Inspection of equipment; utilize proper fluids instrumental for proper operation; reading and understanding equipment maintenance manuals; utilization of a complete preventative maintenance program.
HEAVY EQUIPMENT FIELD PRACTICUM ~ 200hr
Familiarizing and coordinating the operation of tracked loaders, rubber tire backhoes, tracked excavators, tracked dozers, and soil compactors. Excavation of earth and construction of projects utilizing knowledge gained from classroom instruction.
